FIRST AND FORMOST

I am not an official representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). I am merely a member of said church living a normal life, doing normal things. Everything contained in this blog is, "according to the dictates of (my) own conscience," (Articles of Faith #11) as far as I believe. That is to say, it is my personal belief that these things are acceptable by the church and God. Being human, and thus subject to error, I am fully aware that there may be times when my opinion and belief may be different than the official stance of the church. I try to align my life and ideas with those of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but again, I must account for the unavoidable errors that are bound to appear. Therefore, take what I post here, say here, and write here with a grain of salt. If there are any questions as to an official stance of the church, please go to www.lds.org. Thank You.

VIDEO GAMES

Of course! As near as I can tell, God delights in games. Video games are no exception. And therfore, He would be just fine with his people playing video games. Provided that they are reletivly mild. That is, nothing that has excessive violence, or explicit content. If the game promotes a healthy sense of competition, or cooperation, then it is pleasing before God, or so I believe. Now allow me to clarify what I mean when I say excessive violence. Titles like Mortal Combat, Grand Theft Auto, Manhut, big name (or even little name) vilolent games with more gore and blood (ok, GTA isn't really all that bloody or gory, but I'll get to it in a sec) than story it seems. These types of games offend God. So, if GTA doesn't have a lot of gore, why is it bad? Because of the types of actions it promotes. Now, I'm not sayin that people are goin to go out and start jackin people's cars or shoot folks on the streets, but I know God was offended when I..well, let's just say it was a cruel thing I did. It is a game that, by nature of the 'kurnal of fun' (that is, the core premise or idea that makes the game enjoyable) that is has, promotes being a menace to society. Taking people's cars? Fun. Tossin grenades into traffic? Fun. Completing missions for gangsters? Fun. However, these things are offensive to God. Is God offended by fun? No, but the means to the end (as far as this topic is concerned) as it were offend Him, that is, what ones does to have fun or does in the name of fun is what can offend God. Also, let's not forget emotional, and psychological violence as well. But there will be more on that later. As it is, it is late, and I grow weary. Again, I am not an official representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church, or unofficially, Mormons), and everything I say is according to my own understanding of said church's doctrines.

DANCING

I love dancing. Granted, I love being the center of attention, and I'm a rather energetic fellow; but can a Mormon dance? Yes, so long as it's clean. In fact, from what I understand, during the early days of the church, dancing was rather important. It's a great way to spend energy, it's fun, and it's a great way to express one's self.
